ZAP's Mission |
The Association of Zinfandel Advocates & Producers is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, educational organization. ZAP is dedicated to advancing public knowledge of and appreciation for American Zinfandel and its unique place in our culture and history. Winegrowers, winemakers and wine enthusiasts combine to form the membership. The common focus is the preservation and recognition of Zinfandel as America’s grape.
Why ZAP is Needed
When the western migration began, Zinfandel vines were brought to the west in the back of covered wagons and horse drawn carts to help establish the farms and vineyards of homesteaders and settlers. Zinfandel was one of the heartiest vines of the time, withstanding and thriving amidst the climate and soil of the new frontier. Zinfandel emulated the personality and character of those early settlers – hearty, tenacious, and close to the earth. Over the years, more “aristocratic” wines become the draw in the market with our viticultural ancestry was pushed aside for more profitable wines. ZAP exists to preserve that important part of our heritage – to celebrate it – and highlight the unique and wonderful characteristics of the grape that helped settle the west – Zinfandel.
