2009 Featured Sit-Down Tasting Sessions
Zin Loves Company...Zinfandel & Its Friends
Unmask your passion for the art of Zinfandel winemaking and taste some of the finest selections of Zinfandel produced. The Zinfandel grape offers winemakers a wide range of flavor profiles, and Zinfandel history is steeped in blending tradition. From the earliest California plantings, growers added to the vineyard "field blends" of different grape varietals to enhance the character of their Zinfandel wines. Discover the different varietals and blending techniques used by our experts to craft their Zinfandels. How do winemakers do that? Is it just the grapes, is it winemaking magic, or a combination of both? Decide for yourself in this exciting session.

Session Leader, Barbara Spelletich, Winemaker, Spelletich Cellars
To blend or not to blend, that is the question. Try it for yourself! As "Winemaker for a Day" you will create your own Zinfandel from samples of varietals utilized in Zinfandel winemaking. The winemakers participating at Flights will join you as "master-blenders" to guide and encourage your winemaking abilities, perhaps revealing the secrets to their success.
Rare Zinfandel Tasting Walkabout!
Your exciting day will culminate in a "walkabout" tasting featuring over 30 exceptional wines not to be poured at the other Festival events. Discuss these wines with the winemaker and principals from the participating wineries. Think of it as having your very own intimate version of the Saturday Grand Tasting.
Arouse your senses with Zinfandel in this tasting walkabout! See the vibrant color and clarity; smell the earth, fruit and spices; hear tales of the vineyard and the creation of the wines; taste the beauty of California's historic wine and connect to styles as you explore the different growing regions.
