I’m super-excited to present to you our exclusive, customized adventure to Sicily!
Why Sicily now? Believe it or not, Sicily is still relatively undiscovered. There’s an unparalleled combination of alluring gastronomic, cultural, scenic and, of course, wine delights to attract the most seasoned traveler. Its capital, Palermo was named Italy’s Capital of Culture in 2018. Did you know that Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean, and the largest region in Italy? Described as a land of extremes and contrasts, Sicily is a magnificent confluence of all things Italian and so much more.
Your week will be spent roaming the magical land staying at luxurious accommodations, unwinding from daily routines, and relishing a celebration of life’s pleasures—food and wine—shared with interesting, likeable and fun people. I love this quote about Sicily: “Sicily offers a hyper-locavore cuisine with Arab, Greek and Spanish influences. Sicily’s cuisine may be regional, but no one can call it provincial.” It’s like eating your way through history! The region is filled with fascinating archeology of ancient (Greek) civilization and amazing regional wines to captivate you.
Joining you on this idyllic journey are your hosts Randle Johnson, Winemaker at Artezin and his wife, MaryLee Johnson. I had the distinct pleasure to travel with Randle and MaryLee on our trip to Croatia in 2017 and again on the Douro River in 2019. You are in the best of hands with this charming and engaging couple.

Randle & MaryLee Johnson
Randle brings extensive experience and knowledge to winemaking. A native Californian, Randle attended the University of California at Davis, graduating with an MS in Viticulture in 1974. Senior Winemaker for the Hess Collection for decades, Randle is their Zinfandel specialist for Artezin wines and has served on the ZAP Board for many years. He’s been described as dressing casually and speaking softly, part artist, part sage. The couple likes to say that “Randle makes the wine and MaryLee does everything else.” You’ll find that MaryLee effortlessly harnesses the ability to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere wherever she goes. Together, they are excited to lead you on this extraordinary journey!
