Gehricke (rhymes with Cherokee) drips with wine history and tradition in Sonoma Valley. It is one of those old vineyard roads in Sonoma that used to be traversed by horse and wagon. The dusty old lane was also the heart of Sebastiani family country where Samuele Sebastiani quarried stones for the streets of booming San Francisco and founded his winery with 500 gallons of wine that he sold off his wagon to the locals. Little did Samuele know then in 1904 that he had founded one of Sonoma Valley’s most celebrated wine family legacies – Sebastiani. After a succession of industry-leading, family-run wine operations, Samuele’s great grandson, August Sebastiani, has today converted Sonoma’s old firehouse to home base for 3 Badge – the family’s line of wines, spirits, and beer. 3 Badge signifies the Sebastiani’s tradition as firefighters and contributors to the building of the Sonoma fire department – and the development of the city of Sonoma itself.
The line of small lot Gehricke wines by veteran winemaker Alex Beloz reflect the true character of the vineyards from which they are sourced, with a luscious Russian River Zinfandel that displays all the complex attributes for which the prestigious AVA is known. The 3 Badge and Gehricke tasting room is located just off Broadway in Sonoma on Patten Street – walking distance from the old Sebastiani Theater and Sonoma’s historic plaza.
