Fred Petersen, one of the most respected growers in Dry Creek Valley abides by the old saying that “The best fertilizer in a vineyard is the grower’s footprints.” For over thirty years Fred has been growing and making Zinfandels that stand among the best in Dry Creek, and these days, Fred and his son Jamie together maintain their hands-on in the vineyard and hands-off in the winery approach to winegrowing and winemaking.
As little intervention as possible maintains the character of the grapes in the Peterson Zinfandels which are made from estate grapes grown on Bradford Mountain above Dry Creek as well as a series of vineyards farmed by friends around Dry Creek.
The Peterson Winery started out in a small red barn on the vineyard and has since progressed to their Timber Crest Farms tasting venue located on Dry Creek Road in Healdsburg where you can taste through the Peterson Zinfandels such as the Bradford Mountain Estate, Bernier Vineyard, Tollini Old School Vineyard, and the acclaimed Tradizionale Zinfandel. Bargain hunters looking for “drinking without thinking” old style wines will want to take home one of Peterson’s bag-in-a-box Zinfandels, priced and packaged for everyday drinking enjoyment.
