Looking for a destination Zin day in wine country? Cline Cellars covers all the bases: An easy location, big old white farmhouse, vineyard views, gardens, lakes, deep history, accolades, green farming, old vines wines, plus a family feel with fun and friendly hospitality. Picnic foods can be arranged through the winery. What more could you want? A museum, maybe? Well, Cline has that, too…displays of California history with scale models of all the California missions! In fact, this particular site was the last of the missions – until it relocated just up Arnold Drive to Sonoma.
Fred and Nancy Cline have left no apparent stones unturned at their family winery in the Carneros AVA located only 45 minutes from San Francisco.
Fred Cline decided to pursue his love of agriculture and continue his family’s longtime farming business by attending U.C. Davis then in turn establishing his Oakley winery in 1982 – specializing in the old-vine vineyards that he grew up with and still thrive there today: Zinfandel, Carignane, Mourvedre and a few other old California original varieties. In 1991 the Cline Cellars winery was relocated to the present location – a 350 acre former horse ranch in Carneros where the Clines could raise their seven children and expand their line of wines to include Rhône varietals.
Today, sourcing from their vineyards in Oakley, Carneros, and the Sonoma Coast’s Petaluma Gap, Cline produces several lines of acclaimed wines across the varietal spectrum…there’s something for every taste – and spending level.
For Zinfandel in particular, be on the lookout at Cline Cellars for the legendary century-old vines Zinfandels from Contra Costa’s Live Oak, Bridgehead, and Big Break vineyards. For a special visiting experience contact the winery in advance to make an appointment for one of Cline’s seated tastings or to arrange a private tasting with picnic goodies at one of the winery’s tasting Cabanas.
