Stonum Vineyards

Looking for a quaint, family-run winery with nice home-grown Zinfandels where you can just relax and revel in a country vineyard setting? On a farm just east of Lodi, the Stonum family is waiting for you with a cute new tasting barn, a table by the pond and glasses of Zinfandel at the ready.

In 1979, the Stonums began the long process of converting a farm property with an old cherry orchard and Tokay vineyard to Zinfandel vineyards – eventually selling the grapes long term to wineries in Napa, Sonoma, and the Sierra Foothills. Then in 2006, the brother and sister team of Mike and Kathy Stonum began reserving some of the most-prized grapes for themselves and making their own wine, releasing their first wine – a Zinfandel – in 2009.

Today, Kathy carries on the winemaking operations after the untimely loss of Mike in 2019, with Mike’s wife Maridel, daughter Francesca, and the vineyard and cellar team carrying on Stonum’s day to day operations.

You can opt to enjoy a seated tasting either indoors or outdoors (beside the pond is popular) and light snacks are provided (call ahead to see if the signature Stonum lumpia rolls are available). Groups should make a reservation in advance.

Kathy makes the Mokelumne AVA designated Zinfandels in what she calls an “old world style” with focused attention on small lots, minimal intervention, and an emphasis on the taste of the vineyard site itself.
