Zialena Winery has roots in Geyserville dating back to the early 1900’s when Giuseppe Mazzoni immigrated from Italy. Joining the Italian Swiss Colony, he became a grape farmer and winemaker. His sons, Fred and Jim, carried on the tradition and produced wine in the “Dr. Pierces” barn on Hwy 101 for much of the middle of the last century.
Although the winemaking operation closed in the 1970’s, Jim’s youngest son, Mike, expanded the grape growing business which he continues to operate today under Mazzoni Vineyards.
Mike’s two children, Mark and Lisa, have teamed up to carry on the family legacy and bring back the winemaking tradition under a new label, Zialena. First release of Cabernet, Zinfandel, and Chardonnay will be in fall 2014. The Zialena winery building is to open every day for walk in tastings and tours by appointment 10 to 4:30.
Zialena’s design and concept have been the ambitions of Mark and Lisa Mazzoni from their early days walking the families 120 acre vineyard with their grandfather and father. The dream was for a state of the art facility that could allow for every opportunity to implement the winemaking philosophy and style true to the heritage of their family and the wines they love. Specializing in Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate, the winery includes 10 open-top concrete tanks for fermentation, a first for Alexander Valley. The facility began construction in April 2016 and was completed in February 2017. Tours and tastings are offered daily. For more information, please visit our tours and tastings page.
